Home Teach in Korea Hiring Process

Hiring Process

While this process may seem complicated, Xperteachers Recruiting will walk you through the entire process of getting a teaching position in Korea step by step. The most complicated step of the hiring process is obtaining the E-2 teaching visa which must be done exactly as specified. As the application for the E-2 teaching visa differs slightly from country to country, we have laid out the entire process for obtaining the E-2 visa with specific instructions for each country. The process can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks, but this is largely dependent on the applicant. You can greatly speed up the process by getting your document package ready even before you accept a job. Go to the E-2 visa instructions page to determine which documents you will need. These documents will be necessary no matter which school you end up working for. Therefore, if you know you would like to work in Korea in the next six months, you will save a lot of time in the entire hiring process by getting these documents together first. Morgan Recruiting accepts applications as far in advance as you like. However, you will usually not secure a teaching position more than 60-90 days in advance as many schools will not be sure if their current teachers are renewing their contracts. In general, you should expect to be teaching in Korea about 2-3 months after we receive your initial application.

The entire hiring steps from your country to Korea are as follows:

Step 1

Fill in an online application here. After receiving your application, we will check over our available positions and work on matching what your job preferences are to our available positions. We will do our best to find what you are looking for in a position and it is helpful and saves time if you specify clearly what you are looking for on your online application. Your job satisfaction is our highest priority. If we have presented you with an offer that is not what you are looking for, kindly inform us as to which criteria are most important to you in your job search.

Note

When we contact you, it is a good opportunity for us to get to know you and also for you to ask any questions you may have. It’s a good idea to write down any questions you have beforehand. We will do our best to answer all your questions and if we are unable to answer a question, we will get you the answer as soon as we can. Guaranteed. The interview will be fairly informal and we will ask you a few background questions. For some sample questions we ask interviewees, click here. This interview will play an important role in our recommending applicants to schools, but Xperteachers Recruiting does not make the final decision on hiring. Ultimately it is the school’s decision whether or not to hire a particular teacher.

Step 3

After the interview with the school director, if both sides are in agreement, the contract is sent to the teacher and signed. The signed contract, along with the applicant’s other documents must then be sent to Xperteachers Recruiting to begin the processing for your E-2 teaching visa. Click here for what documents you need to send and what procedure you need to follow specific to your home country.

Step 4

Once your document package is sent to Korea, Xperteachers Recruiting will review the documents and then your school will apply to Korean immigration for your E-2 Visa Issuance Number that you will need to take or send to the Korean consulate in your country. Getting the Visa Issuance Number will take between 7-10 business days.

Note

Please send your documents by DHL or FedEx as regular mail takes too long and cannot be tracked.

Step 5

Once Xperteachers Recruiting receives your Visa Issuance Number from the Korean immigration office, we will send that number to you and you will need to take that number, along with your other documents and the visa fee to the Korean consulate which services your region. The Korean consulate will review these documents and put your visa stamp in your passport. If you live far from the Korean consulate, you should send your documents by mail. Please contact the Korean consulate beforehand to confirm their preferred method of post as not all consulates will accept the same methods of post. If you do send your documents, be sure to include a self-addressed stamped envelope, so that the consulate will be able to return the documents to you.

Step 6

Once your paperwork has been submitted to the Korean consulate which services your region, it will usually take between 3-5 days to receive your E-2 visa stamp in your passport. Usually at this stage we will reserve your flight to Korea. We will usually arrange for you to fly out to Korea about one and a half to two weeks after you submit your documents to your local consulate to allow enough time for processing. You will need to have a final interview with the consulate before receiving your E-2 visa. If you live far from the consulate and are physically unable to have a face-to-face interview, it may be possible to have a phone or webcam interview. About an hour after this interview, you will be provided with your E-2 visa in your passport.

Step 7

Once Xperteachers Recruiting has received confirmation that you have received your E-2 visa from the Korean consulate, we will finalize your travel arrangements and confirm these dates with you. We will then send the ticket to you. Your ticket will be sent to you either as an electronic ticket or as a paper ticket to your home address.
